Mom’s Need Love Too & What About The Fellas

Knowledge and therapies for mental illness have come a long way in the last hundred years. But even though non-consensual lobotomies are a thing of the past, in many ways, many of our social attitudes are still somewhat outdated. In fact, the Mental Health Foundation estimates that almost 9 out of 10 people who suffer from a mental illness experience stigma at some point.
Unaddressed stigma can lead to personal and institutional discrimination. Individuals who suffer from mental illness experience discrimination and stigma in a variety of different ways, including reduced access to employment and housing, higher rates of incarceration, difficulty in personal or romantic relationships, and social isolation.

I began these support groups during the pandemic of 2020. I saw a need for people of color especially birthing families to have a safe. judgement free outlet to simply be black people and express ourselves freely among one another. The reactions from guest have been beyond amazing. People need a place to vent. These groups are held in person at my office in Belleville, IL. I welcome everyone of all ages, stages and phases of life to join. We provide refreshments and therapeutic conversation on many topics such as pregnancy, postpartum, breaking generational curses, raising children, rebuilding the black family dynamic and much more. Men have their own room to have their conversation and women as well. They typically last 2-2.5 hours.

What About the Fellas
